STOP Rigging Fuzzy Dice/Coike Wrong (Do This)

If bass are following your fuzzy dice / coike (dice bait / urchin) and you’re missing bites, it’s usually the rig — not you. In this video I break down how to rig fuzzy dice and Coike fullcast baits the right way: the clean “internal weight + top hook” setup that stays pinned in the bait, plus a simple stinger add-on that fixes short strikes without killing the action.

We’ll cover why dangling/external-weight setups tend to roll and cost you control when you’re presenting these baits to suspended fish, the standard nail-weight neko-style rig (and why it can tear expensive elastomer baits), the better “locked-in” weight option with an eye you run the hook through, and when to go weedless vs open hook based on cover. Then I show the treble stinger system that converts followers and nippers into hookups.

  1. Easier is to get the Varivas Mosquito loop hooks that have the line on the hook eye to clip your grenade weight to. That is how Hideup recommends rigging them.

  2. I am on Lake Fork Sunday March 1st ZERO, TOM A ZERO. Wind, Wind and more Wind and find a good area 5o boats in it.
Now I travel from WV to here I stopped and called from WV to Texas to find that big Coike. I have away to fish it but I can't find one so here is my Brilliant or Genius idea. Everyone give Rick Vann credit for spilling the juice. Take a Frog Hook run the eye up through the hole and whoo hook, use a weighted frog hook or unweighted. There it is Tom I through it out there. Going to be in Little Caney tomorrow.
Day 1 ugly looking coffee creek just arrived from WV short day caught a 3 pound 4 ounce on a bagley balsa square bill chartreuse Black back then in 9 inches of water a 3 pound 9 ounces on a 3/8 Morning Dawn jig under the bridge to the left back where the mat of grass is where the map says pond.
Remember the frog hook is my idea…😊
Sunday a big fat zero not a bite all around West Fork Ramp, no weenie fishing either. I was every where today

  3. If you could find out the “heavy” way…I’d be very interested….most of the giants I’ve seen caught on it are with casting gear. Cracking them on the hookset. My zoom ins make it look like a general T-rig. But nobody has revealed that rig yet from what I’ve seen.

  4. Hear me out Tom, I have caught some toads on the Hags Prickly Pear and I havent had a single issue with hookups, I started with a EWG and hung a lead weight from the hook then hooked into the bait and it worked okay. Then I found the golden rig. I use a Line through screw lock swim bait head and screw it into the bait, then you take a treble hook and hook one of the barbs into the hole and let the other 2 be exposed. It feels and acts just like a jerk bait with this rig and when you hook up the bait moves up and out of the way. Give it a try and see what you think.

  5. Great video!! Does it matter whether you run the treble hook thru first, or the weight thru first? I’m wondering if running the treble hook thru first almost creates a bit of a track to then run the weight thru. Thanks!!

  6. The way that I have been rigging the strike king version is inserting a 1/16 tungsten nail weight into the body, then screwing a hitch hiker in using a small piece of tubbing, much like a keeper on a trailer hook, over the top hole and passing the point of my weedless wacky hook through to keep from loosing it. Have caught as many as 12 to 15 fish before having to replace the lure.

  7. 20 bucks each? I'm not doing that. You probably should have left that out, I bet alot of people are gonna bail early on the video. Obviously you don't price them and I'm curious so I'll watch. Appreciate your work.

  8. My question to you is where does the bait go when you hook the fish? Most worm rigs the bait will ride up the shank of the hook and the line. When fighting a fish, I see these $15-$20 lures coming off easily with your set up. My thought is to use a longer shank hook with a weight on it. Push it through the middle of the bait, and now your bait will have somewhere to go. Just a thought.

  9. Mustad frog hook through the center hole ,super glued in place and the screw loc screwed in place. Weighted with nail weight. Dynamite! Hook up ratio is high! Mustad frog comes weighted and not weighted if you don't want the nail weight. It has double hooks also which gives it a slow sink rate on the floating sea urchins as I call them.

  10. Thank you for the tips Tom! Your channel is awesome I can’t wait for new videos! The Geecrack Cue bomb is another good choice and comes in many colors, some have tentacles in contrasting colors. The tentacles pulsate with small twitches. You can connect the hook to a hitch hiker screwed into the top of the bait. You can also add a small glass rattle. This category of baits has exploded with many new versions available!

  11. Ive been rigging fuzzy baits by shrinktubing the eye of a screw-lock and then hook through the eyelet.
Pro-Tip: If needed, you can heat up tungsten with a lighter to insert into elastic baits. (Works great on neko, just be sure to seal it in)
