Deep Diving Crankbaits For Early Summer Bass

Anyone can throw a crankbait but do you know how to pick the right baits, colors, or how to use it to trigger bites? Today Matt is on Lake Fork, Texas and he’s explaining exactly what you need to know to be a better crankbait fisherman during the post spawn and Summer months.

Matt explains what different baits are used for, which colors produce the best results, and opens up his personal boxes and shows you the exact baits he brought with him on the cross-country trip. With Matt and Tim there are no secrets, they’re showing every bait in the box and explaining what they’re for.

Below is a breakdown of the baits in the box as well as the rods, reels, and hook upgrades Matt is using for his baits.

  1. As always I appreciate you Matt and Tim with Tacticalbassin. I was there at BacarracLodge the same week you guys were at the other Lodge. So cool! I haven't been back since but hope to maybe again.

  2. Hey Matt, I love your content my friend, been a fan since the Swimbait Nation days. After 9 years of almost exclusively throwing the big stuff, I’ve come back to spending more time with conventional fishing but with a big bait mentality. I’m about to buy a dedicated big crankbait rod but I’m torn between the Dobyns 805 and 806. I want to throw the biggest and deepest diving baits on the set up. I thought the 806 would be the deal but I see you’re using the 805. I’d be tickled pink if you could elaborate as to why you’re going w the 805 over the 806, especially if you did so while TWH is running the Labor Day sale. Lol.

  3. When are y'all gunna go to Smith Mountain lake guys???? You would be pleasantly surprised with the fish in this lake. Is a normally clear reservoir with rock, brush, and lot of docks. Good crank bait fishing year around if you know what your doing. May and June I would say is our best 2 months in my opinion for MY style of fishing. Incredible night bite on wake baits. Thunder sticks to be exact. You would be surprised, at the size of bass you can catch on them when the alewives are spawning. You can catch em pretty much any way you want to year round but there are certain times of year when they go really deep like 25 plus feet, or suspend in 30 feet over 150 feet of water. That's when I struggle. Bout the only ways I can think of you can't catch em on SML is frogs and true braid and flipping stick punching vegetation cuz we ain't got any anymore. Use to but not anymore. Swimbait fishing the way y'all do it is what I would like to see, TRULY. There's 2 baits majority of guys say you can't catch em on but a week in spring time and that's a swim jig and a swimbait. And I've caught nice bass on both in every month of the year. The swim jig at night is killer when there feeding on bigger gizard shad and bluegill. But I really wish y'all would come here man for real dudes. Its more like y'alls western lakes, and Cali then any other lake I know of in my area. It's a truly under rated lake guys.

  4. Most people buy into the idea that blue and black offer the most contrast in low light. I know there are places that still have plenty of light at 10XD depths but there are also lots of places that are pitch black at those depths (most of my lakes here in Mississippi.) Don't those bold colors lose their boldness at depth in muddy water? If blue and black are the go to colors for jigs and worms in low light due to higher contrast why not for deep diving crankbaits too?

  5. I'm hooked on TB videos and I love all the Information we get from them.ive just can't afford most of the lures, rods and reels and I'm looking for a deepcrankbait combo…anyone has any ideas of a combo under $300 value?

  6. My wife is listening to you while I watch this in the car. She is in the back round saying, "I think he has confidence in all his baits. If he doesn't he hasn't mentioned it." Lol she's a bit of a jerk.

  7. I fish a lake in NY called Round Lake. It's exactly that, a big round bowl down to 20-25'. Theres no structure, humps, etc. Theres weed edges out to 7-8' then nothing. Where would I start deep cranking on a lake like that?
