Bass Fishing in a Rain Storm – South Fork Catawba River – McAdenville, NC – Hail Storm

When it rains, it pours…

I struggled for bites on my maiden voyage on the South Fork River. McAdenville is known as Christmastown, USA, but I must have been on the naughty list this year as I didn’t even get a lump of coal…

  1. You just confirmed my suspicions about the South Fork in that area of McAdenville. The water is always so muddy dirty there, I'm not surprised Bass don't wanna be there.

  2. Glad you stayed safe! Hail is usually a sign of good conditions for tornadic activity. I have tried to fish that river a couple times now and never caught anything but a turtle. I've heard of small mouth possibly being in there but I haven't been able to get a bite yet.

  3. Never fished that SF water above the dam – below the dam that connects into Lake Wylie is great however. Weird it would be that slow. TOUGH day with that hail. Thanks for posting – look forward to every Sunday evening and your videos! Tight lines – <><

  4. I enjoyed the video even if you didn’t catch anything. Next time, use the ramp behind Cramerton Fire Sta. Get a coffee and a parking spot at Floyd and Blackie’s. Take your fiancé, paddle up to the dam and float back. Its a great cruise. You can also cruise the current for 10#+Big Cats south of the FD ramp, to the second spillway. I’ve never got a bite in that river. I enjoy it for relaxing yaking and exploring with my grand kids.

  5. Man I am sorry to hear about the bad day you had. I know fishing in the rain & hail was not good. It was a good thing that you had a Change of clothes with you. You take it easy buddy.

  6. Many of these launches were designed more for the Touring Kayak and Paddle Board crowd which as you noted, are much easier to transport. The best thing we can do as Kayak Fisherman is contact the people in charge of decision making for these sites, and let them know what improvements are needed access-wise for us to launch without struggling and getting injured. I know I'd much rather park in a safer Police Patrolled dedicated access point whenever possible, just we need as a community to have more of a set standardized way of building the access points especially in regards to the grade as the majority aren't Kayak Fishing friendly.

  7. Good show every Time you go fishing. It is a learning experience. I went the day before wind blew me all over the lake. that was my first time this year I got skunked that day too looking forward to next time be safe

  8. I've never fished from a kayak so I don't know but if you were able to back your truck up to the top of that track I guess it's called I would install an eye bolt in the front end of the kayak and figure out a way to put a boat winch on the truck but I'm lazy and have a bad back I couldn't even think about pulling it up that hill As usual great video
