what is the average distant you are from the stump? are you typically within 20ft. my thought is if your say 40ft your angle/rip would pull it away from the stump/strike zone. and is he using an extra fast rod action?
Couple of questions. Water temps for this method?? And describe the stroking height, speed etc..??? Thanks
Do you see a difference in this pattern on winter weather patterns? I could see them moving up on stumps on sunny days; but would they do that on cold cloudy days or move down into the nearby ditch? My lake has a lot of shallow stumps; but no big flats where a creek isn’t 20 yards away. Thoughts?
2 weeks ago i was throwing a rayburn red crankbait in a tilapia heavy pond here in houston just to find logs and stumps. Once id find one (and snag on one) id take out my jig and do exactly as he said. Didnt get bit though. Threw that crankbait and boom snagged very hard on a log for about 2 minutes. Now im using 8lb braid and i consider it a lost cause and go to snap the line. The crank pops off and starts swimming 10ft sideways. There was a 9lber sitting on that tree branch about 4ft deep. Caught my pb that day. (Oh and its all about the technique. You can absolutely finesse a 10+ lber on light line. Ive caught 22lb carp on 4lb. Would i do it in a tournament? Probably not)

On days that you don’t find this more aggressive jigging working, do you ever go to the finesse jig and have success? Or, do you not use a finesse jig anymore? Thanks for sharing tonight J.

Well damn, 5-10 fish a day(sunrise-sunset) is a good day for me in perfect conditions….I'd be happy to catch that many in the middle of winter…
